The term “Pitbull” is a generic name that is given to a number of breeds (or mixed-breeds) of dogs. They generally have the same, or similar, physical and personality traits. Pit Bulls originated by the breeding of fighting dogs back in the 1800s. Today, there are quite a few types of Pitbulls out there. However, originally – they were dogs which were a result of breeding bulldogs and terriers together. Whatever type of Pitbull, the physical and the personal traits of all these types are very similar to one another. Some variations of the different Pitbull examples are described below.
American Pit Bull Terrier
This is the first and the only official Pitbull breed in the United States today, as recognized by the UKC. These pups were a result of breeding British Bulldogs and American terriers together. This is the origination of the breed, therefore, many of the people out there solely consider the American Pit Bull Terrier as the only breed of pit bulls. The average height of these dogs is between 17 to 21 inches, while the average weight of the American Pit Bull terrier is between 30 to 60 pounds. To keep your pup at a healthy weight, be sure to feed your pit bull the correct food.
American Staffordshire Terrier
The American Staffordshire Terrier is another type, or example, of the pit bull. They came into existence in the 1970s. These dogs are known to be working dogs, and they tend to carry out different types of tasks. The average height of an American Staffordshire Terrier is between 17 to 19 inches. They have a weight proportional to their height.
Another type of Pitbull is the American bulldog. These dogs were used as working dogs, mostly to drive cattle and guard the homes of their masters. Bull Dogs were also used in the game known as Bull baiting. However, when the sport got banned; the English version of these dogs disappeared completely. American Bulldogs are still there, and are used as working dogs. The average height of the American Bulldog is between 20 to 27 inches. They have an average weight that is proportional to their heights.
The American Bully is also classified as a Pitbull breed. When the American Pit Bull Terrier was crossbred with American and English Bulldogs, the result that was achieved was the American Bully. These dogs are really good family companions and therefore, are considered to be very good pets. The average height of the American bully is in between 16 to 20 inches and a weight that is proportional to the height.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
The Staffordshire Bull terrier is a result of the crossbreed between a bull and a terrier, therefore it automatically becomes a Pitbull. These dogs were used as game dogs in bull-baiting, batting dogs, and were really popular in Staffordshire. This is where the name actually originated from, believe it or not! These pups have an average height of 14 to 16 inches, and an average weight of 24 to 36 pounds. Check out our Meals page for weight loss and weight gaining meal ideas!

What is a Blue Pitbull?
A blue Pitbull or a blue-nosed Pitbull is a type of Pitbull that has a blue nose and coat. Now for someone who does not have ample knowledge of dogs might just consider it as a color of the nose, and no big deal at all. But, for the dog lovers; a blue nose Pitbull is just so fascinating, most of the people out there want to have a Pitbull with a blue colored nose. One thing to remember here is that the blue Pitbull is not a different type, it is just a cross breed of a bull and a terrier – it’s just one of the rare and most desired colors! What are Red Nose Pitbulls?
As you must have made out by the name, this is a Pitbull with a red-colored nose and a copper coat. No, he doesn’t help Santa with his sleigh every year – he can’t fly! But he is considered a rare and desired color in the Pitbull world. The concept of the original red nose or the old family red nose (OFRN) goes far back, and is related to the Irish Pitbulls used for Bullbaiting. The Irish came to the United States and bought these red nosed Pit Bulls along, this is where the red nose, or the original red family nose, originated from. The reason for the red nosed Pitbulls is still unknown. They also need to be fed the best fish oil you can buy, to ensure their coats stay shiny. You can breed these dogs and chances are that you will get a red nosed pup, but there is also a possibility of getting a blue-nosed pup as well.
Can you get a Solid White Pitbull?
